Canadian Finals Update

There are plenty of blogs talking about how the dogs and handlers are doing this weekend. Instead, I give you this.

Bunny Agility.

You heard it right. Agility with rabbits...

This is Amanda Greening and her bunny Babbity.

Amanda tells me that Babbity took to agility naturally and really didn't need any training.

They usually perform off leash, but given that they are outdoors and surrounded by dogs they've wisely chosen to keep the rabbits on leash for their own safety this weekend.

I assumed that they used clickers to train the rabbits. However, it turns out that the rabbits really don't eat outside their cages so instead they simply reward them with affection for a job well done. Interesting. The course is varied from trial to trial. I think a few dog handlers would be embarrassed if they had to compete against these rabbits.

The sport originated in Denmark and they hope it will take off here as well. Most of the rabbits at this weekend's demos are rescues.

My brush with fame

I'm down at Louanne's helping her set up for the CBCA national finals. We've been running around a lot getting various things done which has meant a number of trips in to High River. High River happens to be the town where the CBC series "Heartland" is filmed. It turns out they were filming today. I had my camera with me for a change so we drove down the street where they were filming and waited while they shot their scene.

As soon as I turned my camera on...the battery died. It seems my "take pictures on trips" curse continues to plague me.

At the intersection we even wound up stopped next to characters Amy and Lou Fleming.

Our latest (and hopefully last) fencing project is finally done! We seem to have a knack for picking "great" weather for fencing. Guaranteed, if we had time it was +28 in the shade. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger and all that!

The great news is that now we can do this...

New addition to the flock

Meet Gordon.

As in Gordon RAMsey.

We're hoping with a name like that,

he'll help us make some really tasty lamb.

However his work doesn't start till this winter (and really rough work it is too), so in the meantime he's just hanging out with his new "guy friends" sampling the local grub.
