New faces on the farm

I mentioned that I have new sheep. Here are most of the new girls. There are 14, however a couple of them were too busy eating to pose for photos.

Louanne and I also headed over to my neighbour Don's field. This was my first chance to get out with the new stock trailer, sheep and dogs into a new field. Originally I was going to turn this into a blog of it's own, but given that I've already blogged three times today I figure it can just get attached to this one.

Don's field is great. It's nice and big (bigger than it looks as a matter of fact) and has some great hills to play on. All of the dogs worked well and we had so much fun we wound up going back again this morning for a little more fun before Louanne and her crew had to go.

Hope

Tell

Tomorrow I'm heading down south to have lunch with Tammy, work dogs with Louanne and visit with Scott and Jenny. Yep, this is pretty much a perfect week in my books.

Metal sheep whistles and sub-zero weather

I've mentioned a number of times that the sport of herding sheep involves a steep learning curve. Today I learned another "life lesson".

When it is cold outside, keep your whistle tucked INSIDE your coat.

When you feel your whistle sticking to your lips and tongue, DON'T pull it out.

Enough said.

Brucie's new friend

Louanne is here for a couple of days this week, picking up some new sheep. First off - congrats to Louanne on making it this far north. ;-) As for the sheep, they'll get their own blog.

Risky and Isla came along, and well frankly, Brucie thinks he has died and gone to heaven. He and Risk have been playing pretty much non stop.

" Love at first sight"

This would be the interactive portion of this blog. Blogger refuses to upload this picture correctly. I've tried a dozen different ways. So, simply pick up your laptop or monitor, turn it 90 degrees clockwise and enjoy the picture...

Now turn your monitor 90 degrees counter clockwise for the rest of the blog...

A picture of innocence.

More love.

Today on Sesame St. we're going to about "cooperation"

THANKS for letting me come to visit!!

Oh Deer...

It's November, so Karen is busy getting ready to take her dogs up to Alaska. This year she has invited me along to help out on the trip. Never one to miss out on an adventure I've said "YES" of course.

This morning we were all set to take the dogs to the vet for check ups, shots, etc.. We got up bright an early, loaded 25 dogs into the truck and headed up the road to Westlock.

Not 5 minutes from home (1 KM to Perryvale to be exact), I saw a buck, head down, running straight at us out of the ditch. Without time to do anything, Karen did exactly the right thing - and didn't swerve - thank you Karen.

The deer hit the front right corner of the truck and did this:

All things considered, it was probably the best place to be hit given that the dog box was full. We managed to limp home.

We're supposed to leave for Alaska on December 10th. Hopefully this won't set us back too much.

Buster's prime time drama

Unlike most other weekends around here, neither Travis or I really had anything to do so we hung out which was great. We also watched a whole bunch of TV, which was also great.

We watched two years worth of Greys Anatomy in two days.

I happened to glance over at the chair last night and spotted this

watching this

What is Dr. Grey going to do about Dr. Mc Dreamie? Next episode please!

Quit bothering me while I'm watching my stories

Pick up sticks

That 's what Bruce does on walks...

picks...up...sticks...

Which leads to

Spa treatments

with help from Buster - hold him down a little longer...

He'd happily take the sticks out him self. He'd spend the whole evening ripping rose bush sticks out all over the house, leaving little thorns all over the floor. Little thorns that love to be stepped on by the humans in the house.

The Border Collies?

Clean as a whistle!

I laugh at sticks!

Public enemy #1

If you think that squirrels are cute and adorable, you probably live in the city. Squirrels without fuzzy tails are called rats. Squirrels get into things and make one heck of a mess, harrass dogs, and lately one squirrel in particular - let's call him Mr. Squirrel, has been getting into the bird feeder, eating all of the sunflower seeds and scaring off the birds. This defeats the purpose of having a BIRD feeder in the first place.

Hey lady remember, I'm cute AND fuzzy!

When I catch him out there, I chase him off. I consider this cat's work. Where are the cats?

Tough day at the office...

Yeah, I'm exhausted.

Tell is for sale

Tell will turn 2 this December. He is currently running in Intermediate and Pro Novice, is the 2008 ASDA Novice Champion and is qualified for the 2009 USBCHA Nursery Finals. He is a very easy dog to handle and would be a very good dog for a novice handler. He is house trained, good in a kennel or tied, travels well, and is good with cats and dogs. He is ABCA and CBCA registered and is DNA free of CEA from Optigen.

If you are interested, please email me at dogs@lisawright.ca

Have sheep will travel

There always seems to be "one more thing" that I HAVE to have when it comes to the dogs.

This is the latest.

With my new trailer I can go get new sheep, and most importantly, take my sheep to other fields to practice. My new trailer is actually a "vintage" trailer however it has been really well taken care of and pulls like a dream. I'm pretty much a trailer novice, so I'm really pleased that I've been able to hitch it up myself and that I've taken it through gates and backed it up without wrecking anything...so far.

I quickly learned today that the other trick to trailer ownership is convincing my sheep that THEY should be as thrilled about field trips as I am.

Trust me, these sheep are not convinced - yet.

Hope the convincer.

See girls - it's NICE inside!
